Usually we spend our Fourth of July watching fireworks with the Hatch Family but they all ditched us this year so we watched them instead with my parents, Mike & Rebecca, Rebecca's brother & his family, and Pattie, Brian & Leia. I was a bit offended that the Hatches didn't join us as they had promised too but I must confess this year was a bit more enjoyable than previous years, not because they weren't there but because we didn't have to wait hours in the heat for a firework show and we didn't have to wait hours in the traffic back. Instead we were able to wait in my parents air conditioned house until the fireworks started, making puzzles and socializing. When they began we moseyed on out to the park next to their house to watch them. Though we weren't as close as we normally are, we were close enough to hear the booms on the big ones and see even the small ones.
Ben was a bit terrified at first but then warmed right up to them. Steven was in awe for the first half with shouts of "Wow!" "They're going to pow us!" and many giggles of glee. The second half he spent running around with Rebecca's nephews. He then yelled things like "Fire! Fire!" "Run for you lives!" and "We're going to die!" as he and his new friends ran away from the fireworks and rolled down the park's hills. He even made friends with some random strangers, a girl & boy and held the little boy's hand. It was pretty cute (although slightly worrisome).
Afterwards we walked back to my parents house and hung out a bit and then encountered ZERO traffic as we drove home. It was a nice, and relaxing Fourth of July :)
So they weren't posing for my camera obviously, but still they're such a cute family and we're going to miss them terribly when they move to TN at the end of this month :(
